Microsoft nominated Great Western Bank for the Gartner Business Intelligence Excellence Award based on the success of their business intelligence and analytics initiatives. The award, launched in 2005, recognizes recent business intelligence (BI) implementations that demonstrate high levels of business impact and integration of business, decision, analytical and information processes.
Great Western Bank, a subsidiary of National Australia Bank, was nominated based off their initiatives to support their ambitious goal to grow by 300 percent by 2014. In order to reach this, Great Western Bank needed to increase profitability, simplify compliance, and gain better insight into customer relationships. The bank deployed a Microsoft data warehouse and BI solution based on SQL Server 2012 Enterprise data management software. This solution enabled the bank to better analyze customer information, helping employees respond to changing customer needs more quickly. As a result, Great Western Bank can more easily retain existing customers, identify opportunities to sell additional services, and better target potential new customers, all of which have contributed to increased profitability. Additionally, the new BI solution centrally manages data, ensuring data accuracy and helping the bank meet regulations required for financial institutions to grow past a certain size.
