In December we announced the availability of Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack (MDOP) 2013 R2 which you will recall includes support for Windows 8.1 and the Application Virtualization of Office 2013 Professional plus (Volume licensing version). Today I am delighted to inform you that we have extended MDOP’s support of Office 2013 Professional plus to now include user application settings roaming via MDOP’s User Experience Virtualization (UE-V 2.0).
As a refresher, MDOP User Experience Virtualization (UE-V) is an on premise solution that roams application and Windows settings for the user between their devices.
Beyond supporting roaming of user settings across standard PC installations of Office 2013, the combination of UE-V 2.0 and App-V 5.0 SP2 support of Office 2013 Professional plus offers our customers a complete virtualization solution, enabling them to get the same personalized experience on a virtualized instance of Office 2013 from any authorized PC or virtualized desktop.
To activate UE-V application settings support of Office 2013, we are providing you with official UE-V Office 2013 templates which you can download from the Microsoft User Experience Virtualization (UE-V) 2.0 template gallery. This gallery is a fantastic resource enabling you to download official Microsoft UE-V settings location templates as well as share your own UE-V settings location templates with UE-V community.
UE-V Microsoft Office 2013 Templates
The Microsoft User Experience Virtualization (UE-V) 2.0 template gallery enables administrators to share their UE-V settings location templates. In the gallery, you can upload your settings location templates for other users to use, and you can download templates that other users have created. The UE-V template gallery is located on TechNet.
The Microsoft Office 2013 template is a custom settings location template. Once added to user’s computers with Windows PowerShell or by defining the catalog path parameter on user’s computers, Office 2013 settings will synchronize between those computers.
How do I find Microsoft-authored templates in the UE-V gallery?
When looking through the UE-V gallery, all Microsoft-authored templates are submitted by the “The UE-V Team - Microsoft” profile.
Microsoft Office support in UE-V
UE-V 1.0 & 2.0 includes settings location template for Microsoft Office 2010. These templates are distributed and registered as part of the UE-V agent installation process. These templates include many Office settings, which keep a user’s Office experience synchronized between devices. The UE-V templates for Office 2013 templates provide a very similar settings experience to the templates for Office 2010. Those Office 2013 settings roamed by Office 365 experience will not be included in these settings for this release.
The following tables contain the specific details for Office support in UE-V:
