Hey y’all, Mark here with a quick history post. Tomorrow July 27th 2013 will be the 20th birthday of Windows NT which is quite the birthday. It can almost drink legally! Just the thought of 20 years makes greybeards like Doug “Bad Cop” Symalla spit out his morning coffee. If you happen to meet Doug have him tell you some stories from the “old days”. They are entertaining.
For those that are interested in computer history there is a great book by G. Pascal Zachary called “Showstopper! The Breakneck Race to Create Windows NT and the Next Generation at Microsoft” Here is a list of some other computer history books we here at the blog enjoy.
Where Wizards Stay Up Late: The Origins Of The Internet
Hackers: Heroes of the Computer Revolution
Also a quick reminder, Windows XP will reach end of support on April 8th 2014 which is just a little over 8 months away so if you haven’t started your migration I can’t think of a better time to start. Full panic mode should be just over the horizon. If you are a premier support customer contact your TAM to get any help you need. Don’t forget Windows Server 2003 is not far behind ending support on July 14th 2015.
If we missed your favorite book or you agree with those above let us know in the comments. Until next time.
